VINTON — Winning the WaMaC West divisional has become a common occurrence for the Williamsburg girls golf team in recent years, and the Raiders added another divisional title Tuesday at Vinton Country Club.
The Raiders shot a team score of 346 on the par-70, edging Benton Community by five strokes.
“I was really pleased with how our girls played, especially since none of them had played the course before,” Williamsburg coach Todd Subbert said.
Individually, the Raiders put three in the top five, and four in the top ten.
“Our team doesn't always have the meet medalist, but we have strength in numbers,” said Subbert.
“It was great to see us place four girls in the top 10. That's the type of effort we'll need moving forward to get us to the next level.”
Rubianne Allison was third for the Raiders with an 83. Mallory Jones finished fourth with a 84, and Jenna Yearian fifth with a 85.
Claire Kleinmeyer came in 10th.
“It was especially nice to see Claire get her first varsity medal,” Subbert said. “I like where we are as a team at this time of year.”
Up next for the Raiders is the WaMaC Supermeet Monday at Pin Oak Pub & Links in Manchester.
