The Raiders continued the theme of the season this week. They beat Fairfield, 67-39 Jan. 22, then lost to No. 8 Benton Community, 47-34 Jan. 23, before bouncing back to beat South Tama 59-16 Jan. 25, and Grinnell, 43-30, last Friday.
The Raiders moved to 8-7, with all seven losses to ranked teams — No. 5 (3A) Solon, No. 11 (4A) Marion, Benton twice, No. 1 (3A) Mount Vernon, No. 14 (3A) West Delaware and No. 1 (4A) Clear Creek Amana.
Carly Rich had 24 points against Fairfield.
Against the Bobcats, the Raiders led 32-31 going into the final quarter but were outscored 16-2 in the fourth.
“We had them neck and neck going into the last quarter,” Williamsburg Coach Stephanie Dacey said. “Offensively, we fell short. We were taking rushed shots and not finishing around the basket.”
Rich had 10 points to pace the offense. The Raiders were playing without starter Makenna Hughes, out with injury.
