Raiders, Bravettes earn top seeds

The newly ranked Class 3A No. 3 Williamsburg girls’ basketball team earned the top seed in their postseason region.

Regional pairings were released this morning by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union as the postseason nears.

The Raiders are at the top of 3A Region 4 and will face Fairfield in the first-round on Feb. 15.

All three games on the road to the State tournament could be played at home if the Raiders win through their bracket.

The Raiders are vying for their first state berth since 2013-14 and are 18-2 on the season.

In the bottom of the bracket is another ranked team, No. 9 PCM, a potential regional final opponent.

The 1A postseason gets started Feb. 13.

Montezuma earned the top seed in 1A Region 6, and, with more teams in that class, will receive a first-round bye.

The 1A No. 6 Bravettes will play the winner of the Moravia-Mormon Trail game Feb. 18.

The other ranked team in the bottom of the bracket is No. 9 Mount Ayr.

State qualifiers last season, the Bravettes look to make it back-to-back.

Belle Plaine, English Valleys, HLV-TC and Iowa Valley were all in the top part of the bracket in 1A Region 2.

Iowa Valley and English Valleys were given home games.

The Bears will welcome North Cedar, and Iowa Valley will welcome a familiar foe in HLV-TC.

The Tigers won the first matchup between the two teams this season and will play HLV-TC again Thursday before meeting up in the postseason.

The winners of those two matchups will face each other in the second round.

Belle Plaine will travel to face North Tama. No. 2 North Linn is the top seed in the bracket.

BGM was placed in 1A Region 8 and will travel to Meskwaki Settlement.

With a win, the Bears would face No. 8 Gladbrook-Reinbeck Feb. 18.
