WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg girls soccer team is coming off a 5-12 season.
“Last season was not quite what we had hoped for,” Williamsburg assistant coach Missy Jones said.
The returning Raiders this season have been putting in a lot of work in the off-season to improve this year.
“They are a young and rejuvenated squad,“ said Jones.
Key returning seniors for the Raiders are London Cook, Kaori Imdacha and Alexis Dayton, who are all team captains this season.
All have been great leaders and have a strong presence on the field, Jones said.
Cook was the starting goalkeeper last season, posting 233 saves and a 84.1% save percentage. Cook was selected first-team WaMaC West last season.
Imdacha and Dayton were both starters last season. Dayton was a second-team all conference selection last year.
The Raiders scored 20 goals in total last season and will look to be more on the offensive this season in terms of goals scored.
“They have put in a lot of hard work and they are ready to show it on the field,” Jones said.
The season opens Monday for the Raiders at home against Colfax-Mingo.
