VAN HORNE — The Williamsburg boys golf team finished runner-up out of five scoring teams at the WaMaC West divisional Monday at Tara Hills Country Club in Van Horne.
The Raiders had a team score of 315 on the par-72 course, 16 strokes behind Grinnell, who shot 299.
“Grinnell had a great day and hats off to them for the way they played today,” Williamsburg coach Brad Schaefer said. “We got down early but clawed our way back to get to with in three strokes, but then they finished strong.”
The Raiders put three in the top 10 and had only five strokes separate their four scorers, carding seven total birdies.
Cooper Bott led the way, placing fourth with a 75. Rogan Ackerman, Quincy Klingner and Robbie Allison all shot 80s.
“We are getting some great scores out of our bottom guys so that really helps for depth, and will allow our top guys to just go play and relieve some pressure,” Schaefer said following the meet.
The WaMaC Supermeet awaits the Raiders next Monday at Grinnell College Golf Course.
Sectionals will be Wednesday, May 14 at Gardner Golf Course in Marion.
