Raiders go 1-1 in WaMaC triangular
Hoyt wins 125 title at Anamosa

The girls wrestling postseason is quickly approaching with conference meets on the horizon. State qualifying meets are Friday, Jan. 30.
Here is a look at some area highlights from the week.
Pella Quad
PELLA — English Valleys got some competition in against some bigger schools in a quad at Pella Thursday.
The Bears dualed against Newton, Norwalk and Pella.
Emily Sieren (105 pounds) and Meika Spies (130) both picked up two live match wins.
Grinnell Quad
GRINNELL — Claire Neuhaus was the highlight for BGM in a quad at Grinnell Thursday.
At 140, Neuhaus picked up three wins by fall, all in the first period.
Williamsburg triangular
WILLIAMSBURG — Williamsburg went 1-1 in its WaMaC home triangular Thursday.
The Raiders defeated Solon 54-30, winning 9 of 14 matches.
From 135 to 145, Williamsburg had three straight wins by fall from Cecelia Gryp, Kimora Owens and Valerie Altenhofen.
The dual against Vinton-Shellsburg came down to tiebreaker criteria of having less forfeited matches, giving Vinton-Shellsburg the 43-42 edge.
The Raiders also picked up a dual win against Marion Monday.
Iowa Valley triangular
MARENGO — Iowa Valley picked up dual wins over North Mahaska (48-24) and Mount Pleasant (47-18) Thursday.
Eva Kriegel and Raelene Hawkins each went 2-0 in live matches, all four wins as bonus point victories.
Highland Invitational
RIVERSIDE — English Valleys scored 17 team points with six wrestlers Saturday at Highland.
Emily Sieren finished third at 105.
Anamosa Tournament
ANAMOSA — Iowa Valley’s Skyler Hoyt took home the 125 title Saturday at Anamosa.
Hoyt defeated 2A No. 10 Simone Downing of Decorah in the final with a pin in the second period.
Kodie Holcomb finished runner-up at 135 for the Tigers.
Iowa Valley finished seventh in a competitive field with 112 team points.
Allie Morrison Duals
MARSHALLTOWN — BGM competed in a dual tournament Saturday in Marshalltown.
Amiah Lint went 6-0 at 115 and Gertie Lally had a solid showing at 115, finishing 5-1.
Carlisle Duals
CARSLISLE — Williamsburg picked up a 48-12 dual win over Indianola Saturday.
Carlisle edged the Raiders, 42-39, in the team’s other dual on the day.
From 125 to 170, a total of seven weight classes, all went 2-0.
