TIFFIN — Grant Hocker continued his strong start in his first season as starting quarterback for the Raiders, throwing for five touchdowns in a 47-20 victory over Clear Creek Amana Friday night.
The Raiders bounced back after a hard-fought loss to Cedar Rapids Xavier last week.
After forcing a three-and-out to start the game, the Raiders drove down the field.
Hocker connected with Cael Moore on third-and-12 to score from 15 yards out.
“After a loss, your confidence can be shaken, so I was really happy on that first drive we could capitalize and get it in,” Williamsburg head coach Curt Ritchie said.
The Raiders’ defense got another stop, and a big run from Nile Sinn set up a 19-yard catch and a run touchdown for Rayce Heitman.
On the first play of the second quarter, the Raiders scored again, this time on a seven-yard pass to Heitman that made the score 20-0.
The Clippers had their best drive of the game on their next possession, but as they neared the red zone, Logan Hummer made a diving play for an interception.
Back on offense, Hocker placed a throw on the sideline to John Eichhorn who ran it in for a 68-yard touchdown.
The Raiders made it 33-0 right before half when Grady Wetjen ran the ball in from 15 yards out, putting the game out of reach for Clear Creek Amana.
The Raiders extended the lead to 40-0 in the third after a 44-yard catch from Heitman set up another Wetjen touchdown run.
The Clippers did find some offense in the second half, scoring on a deep touchdown pass to Aren Schlemme for 49 yards.
Hocker threw his fifth and final passing touchdown of the night to Heitman for 27 yards and Heitmam’s third touchdown of the night.
The score was 47-7 heading into the fourth.
The Clippers added two touchdowns late to make the final 47-20.
“I was happy we improved in all the areas we asked them to get better,” Ritchie said. “We had some toughness stopping the run and got off the field quick on defense.”
The Raiders advanced to 2-1 and have one more game remaining before beginning district play.
