WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg girls golf team was the lone area team last season to qualify for the state meet.
A strong day two pushed the Raiders to a seventh-place team finish in Class 3A, out of 10 qualifying teams.
The Raiders were also one stroke shy of the WaMaC super meet championship as Solon won with a team score of 372 to the Raiders’ 373.
In the West Divisional meet, the Raiders took first with a score of 344.
“The WaMaC will be tough once again,” Williamsburg coach Todd Subbert said. “Us, Clear Creek Amana, West Delaware and Solon should once again be competing for the title.”
The team held a 70-9 record last season, winning nine meets.
Top golfer Jaisel Bott graduated, but the Raiders return four out of six from their state meet team this season: Rubianne Allison, Jenna Yearian, Mallory Jones and Kenzi Driscoll.
Allison and Yearian finished in the top 10 at conference last season.
Demi Horvath and freshman Claire Kleinmeyer will also be key players for the Raiders this season, Subbert said.
The Raiders hope to build off last season’s success and get back to state this season.
“Our goal is to make it back to the state tournament to see if we can improve on our seventh place finish from last season,“ Subbert said.
The season opens Monday in a dual with West Delaware and then April 10 in a tournament at Newton.
