WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg boys’ wrestling team returns four individual state qualifiers from last season.
They include two-time qualifiers Lincoln Schropp and Nile Sinn as well as first-time qualifiers Cael Moore and Carson Grier.
Sinn was a placewinner at the state meet, finishing seventh with a win over Dirk Laramie Boyles in his final match.
All four Raiders were able to win at least one match at the state tournament.
As a team, the Raiders posted a 21-11 dual record last season.
The Raiders qualified for the state dual meet in 2023 and will try to get back there this season after not making it in 2024.
The Raiders wrestle in Class 2A.
“We think the outlook is pretty good for this season,” Williamsburg head coach Grant Eckenrod said. “We have some good, experienced wrestlers back with a big group of young kids with a ton of potential.”
A key for the Raiders will be staying healthy this season.
“We battled injuries at the beginning of last season, and hopefully we can stay healthy because, if we do, we have a chance to be a good team,” Eckenrod said.
The Raiders begin practice Monday and open up their season Dec. 5 with a dual at Mount Vernon.
The Williamsburg Duals will be Dec. 7. Davenport Assumption, Pella, Center Point-Urbana, Columbus, Winfield Mt. Union and Marshalltown will also compete.
One of the 12-district qualifying sites in 2A will be in Williamsburg in 2025.
