VAN HORNE — The Williamsburg baseball team gave Class 3A No. 5 Benton Community quite the test in a 3A Substate 8 first-round game Friday.
The Bobcats scored a run in three separate innings to come away with the 3-2 victory.
In a rain-filled late afternoon and evening, the game time was moved up and the game finished before bad weather hit the area.
The Raiders struck first in the top of the first and totaled five hits as a team.
Henry Simmons had both RBIs for the team. Nile Sinn had two hits.
The Bobcats totaled four hits, with a home run from Carson Nolan.
Both pitchers made it the distance. Sinn threw six innings with five strikeouts, and Brooks Mitchell-Birdsell threw six strikeouts in seven innings for the Bobcats.
Sinn finished his career for the Raiders with several records: most doubles (48), most stolen bases (82) and tied for most career hits (175).
