WILLIAMSBURG — It is only fitting that on senior night, a senior delivers several pivotal plays to ensure a victory.
That senior Friday night was Kyler Provin.
Provin’s two-RBI double in the sixth extended the Raiders lead to 3-0. In outfield duties, Provin caught a few deep — and not easy --flyouts in deep center field.
“It was awesome,” Provin said on the senior night victory.
“It brings us a bunch of confidence beating a team like Beckman.”
Beckman won the state championship last year in Class 2A.
It was also a master class on the mound from Nile Sinn who threw a complete game and one-hitter.
“We needed an outing like that,” Williamsburg head coach Nathan King said.
“It was great to see that from Nile.”
The Raiders’ defense had Sinn’s back all night, making several great plays to prevent the Trailblazers from scoring.
“Nile has been pitching great all season, and the defense backed him up tonight,” Provin said.
The game was scoreless through four innings.
After a single from Provin, a sacrifice bunt from Bryson Wetjen and a beautiful infield single via bunt from Carter Capper, the bases were loaded in the fifth.
Sinn brought one in on a fielder’s choice RBI.
The Trailblazers’ closest scoring threat came in the top of the sixth via their sole hit in the game off the bat of Chase White.
A sac bunt advanced White to second with one out.
After a walk, the inning ended with a flyout and a groundout.
Provin’s two-RBI single in the sixth was the icing on the cake, and Sinn forced a 1-2-3 top-of-the-seventh to end the game.
The five seniors for the Raiders this season include Provin, Capper, Logan Rethwisch, Elijah Carlson-Vance and Elijah Garringer.
“These seniors have put in a lot of work with a lot of off-season training,” King said.
“They all have made improvements.”
Three of the Raider seniors started on senior night which included Provin, Rethwisch and Capper.
“It’s been awesome playing with these guys,” Provin added.
The Raiders will look to use the momentum from this victory in their first round Substate game against Clear Creek Amana Friday.
