Ranked Raiders go 2-3 at home tourney

After a 10-1 start to their season, Williamsburg earned a ranking in this week’s Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union volleyball poll in Class 3A Wednesday.
The Raiders came in at 13th in the class.
On Saturday, Williamsburg hosted a home tournament in which the Raiders were 2-3.
The Raiders picked up wins over Columbus and Des Moines Lincoln and are 12-4 after Saturday.
North Mahaska tops EV
NEW SHARON — In both teams’ South Iowa Cedar League opener Monday, North Mahaska defeated English Valleys in four sets.
The Bears took the third set 25-22.
Ava Gehrking led the Bears with 16 kills. Hadyn Bender had 27 of 28 assists.
Olivia Debevec added a team-high eight aces.
A week off for Iowa Valley
Iowa Valley (1-8) did not play last week and will be back in action Monday in their SICL opener against Colfax-Mingo.
Other Saturday tournaments
- HLV-TC went 2-3 in a round-robin tournament at East Marshall to move to 5-10 for the season. The Warriors picked up wins over Vinton-Shellsburg and West Marshall.
- Belle Plaine and BGM competed in a tournament at GMG. BGM picked up a match win over Collins-Maxwell. Other match scores were unavailable as of Sunday morning.
