MARENGO — The Tigers volleyball team went 7-26 last season with what was a very senior heavy roster.
Official practice started up this week, and much of the lineup is yet to be decided.
“We lost eight seniors from our team last year, many of whom had started for several years, so it will be a bit of a rebuilding year for us,” Iowa Valley head volleyball coach Ross Karsten said.
The Tigers do return two key players from last season.
“Lydia Kriegel is a senior for us this year. She led our team in kills last season and will be a valuable all-around player for us,” Karsten said.
“Izzy Kriegel is also returning as our setter who led us in assists.”
Lydia had 207 kills to be exact last season and earned first-team All-Conference honors.
Izzy had 492 of the team’s 548 assists and will continue her role as the setter this season.
A few other players also return with some varsity experience, but starting positions are yet to be decided in the lineup outside of Lydia and Izzy.
“We are currently trying to figure out which roles players will fill and what will work best for our team,” Karsten added.
The Tigers have plenty of time to find the lineup that works best.
They open up their season Aug. 31 in a tournament at Colfax.
