WILLIAMSBURG — The Williamsburg boys swimming team is nearing the halfway point of its regular season heading into the holiday break.
The Raiders have competed in four meets thus far, and another was canceled due to weather.
The strength of the team this season has been their relays.
“Our relays are doing very well, which is super fun to see,” coach Jan Severns said.
All three of the relay teams are ranked in the top 34 statewide. A total of 24 qualify for the state meet across the district meet sites in February.
The highest ranked relay for the Raiders is the 400-yard freestyle (31st), with the quartet of Calvin Monohon, Tyler Warren, Tyler Patrick and Vivaan Jaiswal and a time of 3:53.21.
The Raiders’ 200 freestyle relay ranks 32nd, and the 200 medley relay 34th, as of Monday.
Individually, some Raiders have already made improvements and set personal bests this season.
Two of them are Patrick and Cameron Schulte, who hold the top two times for the team this season in the 50 freestyle — Patrick in 24.76 and Schulte in 24.79.
Warren, in the 100 butterfly, and Monohon, in the 500 freestyle, are both aiming to improve their times in the second half of the season.
Williamsburg competed in two meets this past week and now gets a break before entering the new year.
The team’s second home meet will be on Jan. 6.
“The season has started really well,” Severns said. “We are expecting more personal best times as they reach their training peak. We have a great group of young men with some new swimmers who are improving every day.”
