Residents excited about shrimp farm

VINTON — The Benton County Board of Supervisors talked about the excitement they’ve heard from residents about a proposed shrimp farm in Benton County.
The subject was one of many the board tackled during its weekly meeting in Vinton.
The board acknowledged the renewal of the liquor license for Beyond Resort at Lazy Acres LLC and approved a variation of the subdivision ordinance for Scott Ford for land in Raue’s Jomesa Estates in Benton Township.
Supervisors approved an intern position in the county attorney’s office.
Supervisor Ron Tippett reported on a mental health region meeting, a Hawkeye Area Community Action Program meeting and a juvenile detention meeting.
Supervisor Bruce Volz attended a historic preservation meeting.
Supervisors Tracy Seeman gave an update on the landfill. It will begin digging a new lagoon system June 16, Seeman said.
The board recognized a memorandum of an agreement with the Chauffeurs, Teamsters and Helpers Local No. 278. This deals with how holidays are handled.
The board approved a position change for Dawn Markland at the sheriff’s office. She will have an exempt salary position. She is currently paid hourly.
