Roberts wins four events in Grinnell

GRINNELL -- The South Iowa Cedar League held its indoor track meet Monday, March 18 at the Bear Athletic Center in Grinnell.

No team scores were kept.

HLV, sharing with Tri-County this spring, and Ema Roberts won four events on the girls’ side. Roberts set a new meet record in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 5 inches.

HLV also won the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400. The 4 x 400 team also set a new meet record (4:26.73). Robert ran anchor on both relays, and also won the open 200 meters.

The HLV boys won one event. Brody Sternhagen was first in the open 200, finishing in 24.53 seconds.

The Iowa Valley boys had four first-place finishers. Jeffrey Crawford won the 400, and Josh Read won the high jump. The Tigers also won the 4x200 and 4x400.

Sam DeMeulenaere won the 800, and Riley Simmons won the shot put for Belle Plaine and Gage Heyne won the 1,600 for English Valleys. Belle Plaine also won the distance medley.

Back on the girls side, Kennedy Axmear of English Valley won the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 10 inches, and the Bears also won the distance medley relay.
