NORTH ENGLISH -- Linda Betsinger McCann, an author of non-fiction Iowa history, will speak at English Valleys History Center in October.
McCann’s works include “Prisoners of War in Iowa,” “Prohibition in Iowa,” several books about the Civilian Conservation Corps in different areas of Iowa, and “The Vanished Towns of the Cedar Valley” series.
She’ll discuss her book “Rosie the Riveter in Iowa” at 2 p.m. Oct. 27 in North English.
Rosie the Riveter was the nickname given to women who worked during World War II. Women were hesitant to go to work, so they had to be encouraged.
McCann was completely surprised to learn there were 70 companies in Iowa that had military contracts during WWII. McCann spoke with 35 women who had worked and shares their memories.
She will have copies of all her books available for purchase.
The EV History Center is located at 108 N. Main St. in North English. The event is free of charge to all. Donations will be accepted.
