BROOKLYN — HLV-TC’s Peyton Roth’s golf game is in a good spot right now.
When you shoot a 36 and it just feels like any other round, you know you’re in a good place.
Roth earned medalist honors in a boys’ golf triangular at Brooklyn-Victor Country Club Tuesday.
“I’ve been feeling good all season” Roth said. “I’ve been hitting my driver really good off the tee and just really working on my wedge game because that’s where I struggled last year.”
Roth carded seven pars and a birdie on the final hole en route to his 36 on the par-35 course.
In five of six nine-hole meets so far this season, Roth has shot 35s and 36s, highlighting his consistency. Roth shot a 69 in an 18-hole tournament this season, the second lowest mark in Class 1A this season.
The Warriors’ senior has big goals for his final season.
“I’m just really focused on playing consistent since I got a goal, and that’s to make it to state this year,” Roth said.
That same determination made Roth a first-time state qualifier in cross-country last fall.
The HLV-TC boys shot their lowest team score of the season with a 164.
Behind Roth, Levi Molyneux and Bryer Jack shot 41s, a six-stroke season best for Jack.
Head coach Cory Lahndorf has been happy with the progress and emphasizes how important the mental side of the game is.
“You’re going to have good shots and you’re going to have bad shots,” Lahndorf said. ‘The most important thing is the next shot.“
The BGM boys edged the Warriors by one stroke with a 163, to remain undefeated on the season.
The Bears were led by a 39 from Jax Foster, who also carded a birdie on hole nine.
BGM is just behind SICL-leading Sigourney in nine-hole average, but BGM has posted the lowest team score of the season with a 149.
On the girls’ side, BGM shot a 204 for the team win. BGM holds a conference-leading 202 average for nine-holes so far this season.
Aurelia Roudabush earned medalist honors with a 44 and leads the conference in nine-hole average.
The Bears posted the three lowest scores of the night. Ana Coleman finished runner-up, with a 49, and Averee Krebill third, with a 55.
The HLV-TC girls were led by a 56 from Cadence Cheney and shot 252 as a team for second place.
