Sauerkraut festival will close out August

BLAIRSTOWN — Sauerkraut Days in Blairstown begins Aug. 30 with a long garden tractor pull at 5 p.m.
But most events for the annual festival will take place Saturday, Aug. 31.
Registration for the car show will begin at 8 a.m. Judging will take place until noon, and awards will be presented at 2 p.m.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. Entries will register at 604 Prospect Street NE.
Action picks up at 11 a.m. with inflatables in the city park, a tractor show at the east end of Benton Street, free sauerkraut and wieners and food trucks and a food tent selling comestibles.
A slow pitch softball tournament begins at 11:30 a.m. Concessions will be available.
The rolle bolle tournament will begin at noon at the Mike Van Thournout Memorial
Stage shows begin at 12:30 p.m. in the city park.
The fire station is the site of trike and bike races at 1 p.m.
Drawings for raffle prizes will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the city park.
A dummy board tournament begins at 3 p.m. in the beer tent, and cow chip bingo begins at 4 p.m. in the city park.
The evening entertainment begins at 6 p.m. A kids’ dance will take place in the city park until 9 p.m. Admission is free.
Also at 6 p.m., a demolition derby begins ½ mile north of Blairstown. Admission is $5 for children 5-12, $10 for anyone 13 and older. A pit pass costs $25. Children 5 and younger will be admitted free.
Gates for the derby own at 4 p.m.
The day ends with a street dance with Lonesome Road from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the beer tent. Admission is free.
The slow pitch tournament continues Sunday, Sept. 1.
A water ball tournament at the fire station begins at noon Sunday, and rolle bolle continues at 1 p.m.
