Williamsburg school bond measure fails

City councilman Tavis Schlabach was elected mayor of Marengo in Tuesday’s city and school election. He received 226 votes to Mark Bickal’s 143.
Incumbent mayor Adam Rabe did not seek reelection.
Three candidates ran for the three open Marengo city council seats: Shawn Huedepohl received 296 votes, John Hinshaw, 274 and William Geoghagan, 208.
Voters in Williamsburg had to write in the names of their choices for mayor and city council members Tuesday after the city missed the Sept. 19 filing deadline.
All three candidates were incumbents and ran unopposed: City Councilmen Jake Tornholm and Jeff Steinkamp and Mayor Adam Grier received write-in votes Tuesday.
Williamsburg’s school bond issue failed by a vote of 709 against to 608 in favor.
Laura Sauser, Brooke Drahos, Jonathan Wuebker won the three open seats on the Williamsburg school board.
In the Iowa Valley School District, Tiffany Kriegel, Bobbi Miller and Dan Slaymaker were elected to the Iowa Valley School Board. Kriegel had 343 votes, Miller, 313 and Slaymaker, 237.
Garet Sims received 224 votes.
In Ladora, Kyle Shaull was elected mayor with 28 votes. Kevin R. York received 13 votes.
Rhonda Ward and Melissa Huber ran unopposed for the two Ladora city council seats.
Holly Dahlstrom will fill the vacancy on the Ladora city council. She received 18 votes. Andreas Dahlstrom received 12.
Travis Gensley received 22 of 25 votes to fill the mayoral vacancy in Millersburg. Renee Moravec will fill the city council vacancy, having received 14 votes. Jeffrey Kruse received 8.
Daniel Strohman will remain mayor of North English. He received 107 of 111 votes cast.
Beth Carter and Andrew Custer each received 102 votes and will fill the two open North English city council seats.
In Parnell, Rick Rodgers received 28 of 45 votes to win the mayoral race.
Ryan Murphy, Jared Dhondt, Larry Schropp and Brad Strausser ran unopposed for five open Parnell city council seats.
Eric Refer won the Victor mayoral race with 131 votes.
Donald Craig, Cindy Trout Smith, Marla Faga and Shawn Sternhagen were the only four candidates running for five city council seats.
In the English Valleys School District Trent Forrest received 233 votes and Steven D. Axmear, 173, to take the two open English Valleys school board seat. Ashley Dickey received 153 votes.
Paul Sauter and Ryan Kupka ran unopposed for two school board seats in the HLV school district.
In Poweshiek County
Matthew VanTomme was elected mayor of Brooklyn, getting 16 votes. Les Taylor received 100 votes.
Leah Keller and Willy Wonick were elected to the Brooklyn city council with 165 and 122 votes respectively. Michael Sheen received 111 votes.
Derec Koch received 57 of 75 votes to become mayor of Deep River. Jeri Koch and Josh Gregson ran unopposed for the two open city council seats. Chad Hanchett received 73 votes to vill a city council vacancy.
Carma Craig received 25 of 26 votes cast to become Hartwick mayor. Kyle Gray, Brett Waterbeck, Sarah Lahndorf, Mitchell Thys and Scott Riedel were the only candidates for the five Hartwick city council seats.
Teri Neuhaus was elected treasurer of Hartwick with all 27 votes cast.
Dawn Hamilton received 37 of 42 total votes to become mayor of Malcom.
Brad Hamilton and Nathan Johnson were the only candidates for three city council seats.
In Montezuma, Kian McKeag and Matt Simpson were elected to the city council with 206 and 182 votes respectively. Tanner Meldrem had 117 votes and Scott Jack, 57.
Jason Meyer and Matt Mann were elected to the Montezuma school board with 647 and 651 votes respectively.
Elected to the BGM school board were Kayleen Tometich, with 263 votes, Stacia Brown, with 243 votes and Amber Wells with 208. Michael Garman received 206 votes.
Sam Cox was elected mayor of Grinnell with 1,192 votes. Russ Crawford received 864.
Sarah Smith received 1,709 votes for the Grinnell at-large council seat; and Rachel Bly got 272 votes for the Ward 3 seat. Shane Hart received 386 votes to fill the Ward 4 vacancy. All ran unopposed.
In Ward 1, John D. Cox defeated Lee David Staroska 261 votes to 212.
