SEISO presents ‘Tales of the Symphony’ this weekend

The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra will perform its second Masterworks Series concerts, “Tales of the Symphony,” at three locations this weekend.
The symphony will perform March 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Burlington’s Capitol Theater, March 24 at 2 p.m. at Ottumwa’s Bridge View Center and March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant.
The concert will feature a symphonic suite based on One Thousand and One Nights in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade,” a lush guitar concerto by Joaquin Rodrigo from guest artist W. Mark Akin and Marilyn Minford McCoid Young Artist Competition winner Renee Blunier performing Alessandro Marcello’s “Oboe Concerto in C Minor.”
Conducting Fellow Jilly Cooke will conduct Mozart’s “Marriage of Figaro,” which sets the whole program in motion.
Tickets to the Masterworks Series concerts in Burlington, Ottumwa and Mt. Pleasant may be purchased at the door or on the website, seiso.us.
Adult tickets are $20. Children and student tickets are free. There is no reserved seating.
Music Director Robert McConnell will be on hand 45 minutes before each performance to talk about the programmed music in depth. This ‘Prelude’ is supported byh a grant from the Charles W. Rand Memorial Lecture Fund in Burlington and is offered free of charge toall audience members.
