Senior dining cancels fundraiser
Sep. 12, 2024 5:57 pm
MARENGO -- The Marengo Community Center and Senior Dining Board of Directors and volunteers have decided to cancel the 2024 soup supper fundraiser normally held in September.
Organizers said they were looking forward to the event this year but had to cancel due to health issues of several volunteers and to other circumstances beyond their control.
The organization is still in need of funding. Residents may send donations to Marengo Community Center, Inc., 1083 Court Ave., Marengo, IA 52301.
Donations may also be given to Julie Alexander, MCC Board Treasurer.
Funding is needed to help with rent and utilities, according to the board. The Marengo community center is a nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible.
The Community Center serves about 10-25 sit-down meals and delivers 10-12 meals to home-bound residents daily. It provides hot, nutritious and well-balanced meals and fellowship, and home visits provide welfare checks ensuring the safety of residents.
Meals are open to all ages and are served at noon Monday through Friday. Anyone 60 years or older can receive a meal for a nominal fee. Anyone younger than 60 is asked to pay $5.
Anyone wanting a meal should call 319-642-5817 24 hours in advance.
