MONTEZUMA — The Montezuma girls track and field team’s three state qualifying events from last season all had one thing in common.
That would be Chloe Snook, who qualified individually in the 100-meter dash, 200 and long jump. Snook placed 15th, 19th and 22nd respectively in those events.
Snook comes into this season as a five-time qualifier, and Ellen Cook is also a previous state qualifier for the Bravettes. Cook qualified in the 3,000 back in 2023.
“It was a solid 2024 campaign,” Montezuma coach Megan Carlson said. “Hope to improve and get more kids to the state meet this year.”
The Bravettes will also be looking to improve on their seventh-place finish at the South Iowa Cedar League meet, where they scored 52 points.
A roster of 23, and just two seniors, will look to do so.
“The 2025 season brings some new faces as well as some seasoned returners,” said Carlson. “This group is ready to work hard and improve throughout the season. We will have a mix of girls who can do several different events, which will help the team be successful.”
A newcomer to watch this season is freshman Ryanne Williams in sprints and jumps, Carlson said.
The Bravettes will open their season April 1 at Belle Plaine.
“We want the girls to focus on effort and improvement regardless of weather and other circumstances,” Carlson said.
