Snow cancels sporting events

A pair of snowstorms crippled Iowa for a couple of days last week, canceling school and sporting events throughout Iowa and Benton Counties.

Williamsburg boys and girls basketball at Mid-Prairie, originally scheduled for Monday, Jan. 8, has been rescheduled for Feb. 1. The boys basketball game set for Tuesday, Jan. 9 against West Delaware was moved to Jan. 18.

The Williamsburg boys basketball game at South Tama, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 12, has been rescheduled to Feb. 15. The girls game against South Tama has been moved to Jan. 25.

Saturday’s wrestling meets — Raiders boys at Marion and Raiders girls at Waukee — were both canceled, as was the boys swimming meet at Cedar Rapids Washington.

Saturday’s boys basketball game at Waverly-Shell Rock was postponed, but a makeup is doubtful, according to Williamsburg Activities Director Nathan King.

The boys wrestling tournament at Solon Saturday, Jan. 13, which Iowa Valley was set to attend, was canceled, as was the girls wrestling tournament at Mid-Prairie.

The Iowa Valley boys and girls basketball games set for Friday Jan. 12 in Marengo against Montezuma were postponed to Jan. 18,

The English Valleys boys’ wrestling triangular set for Tuesday, Jan. 9 at Baxter was postponed. The boys’ wrestling tournament at Waco — involving both English Valleys and HLV — was postponed to Feb. 3, and the girls’ wrestling at Mid-Prairie, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 13, was canceled.

The English Valleys girls and boys basketball games set for Friday, Jan. 12 against North Mahaska were postponed to Feb. 1, and the boys game against Woodward-Granger Saturday, Jan. 13, was canceled.

The HLV boys and girls basketball games set for Friday, Jan. 12 at Sigourney were rescheduled for Feb. 2. A basketball game set for Saturday with Danville was postponed with no makeup date set.
