HLV sweeps Lynnville-Sully
SULLY — In an SICL West volleyball matchup Monday night, the HLV Warriors defeated the Lynnville-Sully Hawks in straight sets, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-17.
Ema Roberts had 16 kills, and Lily Randall added seven.
Freshman Erilea Kupka had 24 assists to add to her SICL West-leading total.
The Warriors also won in a five-set match against Colfax-Mingo Thursday night in Victor.
The duo of Randall and Roberts combined for 47 kills.
To cap off the week, the Warriors competed Saturday in North Mahaska, going 1-2.
Raider girls add another team title
OSKALOOSA — For the third straight meet, the Williamsburg girls’ cross-country captured the varsity team title.
A team score of 46 Tuesday at the Oskaloosa Invitational edged out second-place Albia by 28 points.
Channing Becker placed fourth in 20:24, a Williamsburg school record for the course at Edmundson Park.
Edie Axmear was fifth and Makenna Capper also finished in the top 10.
The boys’ team finished fifth Tuesday. Nile Busch was the highest finisher for the Raiders, placing 10th with a time of 18:07.
Hayes Arwine was next for the Raiders, finishing 16th in 18:34.
Heyne wins home meet
NORTH ENGLISH — English Valleys Gage Heyne strolled to another cross-county victory Tuesday at Knoll Ridge Country Club in North English, winning the team’s home meet in a time of 17:29.
Isaac Frazier and Evan Koehn ran 19:27 and 20:19 respectively.
The girls’ team finished first, led by a second-place finish from Anna Luers.
In the latest weekly team rankings, the Bears were ranked seventh in Class 1A.
Montezuma tops BGM
BROOKLYN — The Montezuma volleyball team defeated BGM in four sets Thursday night in Brooklyn.
Sydnee Burgess led the Braves in kills with 16, and Chloe Smook had 16 assists.
The Bears took the first set 25-23 before the Braves won the next three.
The win put the Braves at 9-9 on the season.
Wetering breaks 20 at Pleasantville
PLEASANTVILLE — Montezuma’s Jusiah Wetering broke 20 minutes in the 5k for the first time Monday as the Montezuma cross-country team ran at Pleasantville.
The Montezuma boys’ team finished seventh in the 13-team field.
Ellen Cook was the top girls’ finisher for the Braves as the team placed eighth.
