HLV-TC tops BGM
VICTOR — The HLV-TC volleyball team defeated BGM Monday night in four sets.
After dropping the second set, the Warriors won sets three and four by scores of 28-26 and 25-17 respectively.
Ema Roberts had 13 kills, and Lily Randall added 11 as well as a team-high five aces in the match.
BGM’s Karagyn Minnaert led the Bears with six kills.
The Warriors added a sweep against English Valleys Thursday night to cap off the week.
14 personal bests at Grinnell
GRINNELL — The Williamsburg girls’ swimming team saw 14 personal bests at the Grinnell College Natotorium Tuesday night.
“These continued time drops are a result of the hard work put in day in and day out, in the pool and on dryland,” Williamsburg head coach Mindy Wuebker said.
“Personal records are not the only place to see the improvements, either. The girls' technique, confidence and excitement are places to see the improvements also.”
The team placed third in the quad event scoring 193 points.
Emily McGovern had the highest individual finish for the Raiders, finishing second in the 50 yard freestyle.
Raiders 1-1 on the week
WILLIAMSBURG — Following getting swept by ranked Grinnell, the Williamsburg volleyball team defeated Fairfield in four sets Thursday at home.
The Raiders took the first two sets and clinched the match with a 25-19 set four victory.
Clarissa Suhr and Taylor Otte had 15 and 14 kills each respectively.
The Raiders’ defense also totaled 18 blocks in the match.
Following this week’s matches, Clarissa Suhr leads the team in kills with 134.
Averi Nielsen leads in assists with 208, and Kylee Suhr leads in blocks with 48.
Roberts atop conference in kills
HLV-TC’s Ema Roberts is leading the SICL conference in kills following this week’s matches with 198 total.
Iowa Valley’s Lydia Kriegel is second with 183, followed by Belle Plaine’s Kayleah Laughlin with 175.
There is one more week of regular season play before the postseason begins with the conference tournament.
Bravettes fall to North Mahaska
MONTEZUMA — The Montezuma volleyball team fell to North Mahaska in four sets Monday night.
The Warhawks have proved themselves to be the top team in the conference this season with a 16-1 record after this week’s matches.
Sydnee Burgess had 11 kills and Kylee Larmore added seven for the Bravettes in the match loss.
North Mahaska swept Belle Plaine Thursday.
Braves cap off two meet week
TIFFIN — The Montezuma cross-country teams finished near the bottom in the Clipper Classic Monday night in Tiffin.
The girls’ team finished fifth out of six teams, and the boys finished seventh out of seven teams.
The Braves also competed at South Hardin Saturday.
Ellen Cook finished fourth overall in the girls’ varsity race.
