Fall sports enters postseason

Gehrking shines in victory over BGM
NORTH ENGLISH — In a volleyball battle of the Bears Monday night, English Valleys came out on top, winning in four sets.
Ava Gehrking had a season-high 26 kills in the match and was very efficient at .417 kill efficiency.
Gehrking added nine blocks in the match.
Mya Beck and Emerysn Minnaert each had five kills for BGM.
Bravettes end regular season with sweeps
The Montezuma volleyball team ended its regular season with sweeps against Lynnville-Sully and Keota Monday and Tuesday night.
Both victories came on the road.
The wins put the Bravettes at 11-12 to finish the regular season.
Plainsmen win on senior night
BELLE PLAINE — The Belle Plaine volleyball team got a sweep on senior night Tuesday against Lynnville-Sully.
Seniors for the Plainsmen include Kyla Shaull, Denisyn Adams, Kayleah Laughlin and Layne McLeod.
Laughlin led the team in kills (10) and aces (8) on the night.
The Plainsmen played three matches in a tournament at Hudson Saturday to close out the regular season.
Tigers top Hawks
LYNNVILLE — In their final regular season match of the season, the Iowa Valley volleyball team came away with a four-set victory over Lynnville-Sully Thursday.
After losing the first set, the Tigers were able to close out the match with 25-17, 25-16 and 25-21 set victories.
Conference preview at Montezuma
MONTEZUMA — In a course preview Tuesday’s SICL cross-country meet, eight conference teams ran at the Blue Springs Shooting Range Thursday.
English Valleys Anna Luers won the varsity girls’ race in 19:58.
The Bears also took the team title of the three scoring teams with 19 points.
The next area finisher was Addison Achenbach of English Valleys, who finished third in 21:15.
The varsity boys’ title went to English Valleys Gage Heyne who ran the course in 16 minutes.
Belle Plaine’s Luke Eichhorn was third in 17:39, and HLV-TC’s Peyton Roth was next, in 17:53.
The Plainsmen finished third as a team.
Raiders compete at North Linn
TROY MILLS — The Williamsburg cross-country team had their final tuneup before postseason competition Saturday at North Linn High School.
The races started bright and early in the morning with the varsity girls’ race at 8.a.m.
Channing Becker and Edie Axmear finished 12th and 16th as the team placed fifth.
The Raiders typical number three runner, Lilyona Abernathy, did not compete.
The boys’ team also finished fifth, with Nile Busch leading the way in 13th place.
Hayes Arwine ran a personal best of 17:46 to finish 18th.
The WaMaC conference meet will be Thursday in Marion at the Antioch Christian Church.
Raiders second at Keokuk meet
KEOKUK — A partial Williamsburg girls’ swim team finished second of three teams with 85.5 points Monday in Keokuk.
Oskaloosa won scoring 167.5 points.
The Raiders’ highest finish of the night was third, which the team achieved in five different events.
