Boulton reaches 1,000-point milestone
MONTEZUMA — In a 76-70 win over GMG Thursday night, Montezuma’s Brady Boulton reached 1,000 career points for the Braves.
Boulton scored 36 Thursday and reached 1,000 in only 51 games.
Max Anderson added 20 for the Braves.
The Braves went 3-0 in games on the week to move to 4-1.
Three Tigers in double figures in victory
MARENGO — In a 54-25 win over Belle Plaine Friday night, three different Iowa Valley boys’ basketball starters scored in double figures.
Layne Peska led with 15, Caleb Haack, 12, and Cole Long added 10, as the Tigers moved to 2-2 following the win.
The Iowa Valley girls also defeated Belle Plaine, 47-18.
Bears top Eagles
KEOTA — The English Valleys girls’ basketball defeated Keota 47-32 Tuesday night.
After losing their season opener, the Bears dialed off three wins in a row.
Ava Gehrking posted a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Aubrey Achenbach added 15.
The Bears fell to to a good Sigourney team Friday but lost by only three (46-43).
With a team made up entirely of underclassmen, the Bears have already showed improvements early in the season.
Bravettes back to .500
COLFAX — After dropping their first three games of the season, all to stingy competition, the Montezuma girls’ basketball team has now won three in a row following a 49-26 win over Colfax-Mingo Friday night.
Vivian Cook led the way with 16 points.
Ellen Cook stuffed the stat sheet, totaling nine points, nine steals, five assists and eight rebounds.
Grinnell Boys Swim Invite postponed
The Williamsburg boys’ swimming team was set to compete in Grinnell Saturday, but the competition was postponed due to the weather.
The Raiders were also set to host a triangular Tuesday, but the event has been moved to Jan. 9.
