Bravettes keep rolling
SIGOURNEY — The Montezuma girls’ basketball team’s win streak is now five after a double-digit victory over Sigourney Friday, 64-46.
Four Bravettes finished in double figures, led by Ellen Cook’s 19.
The boys’ team also won 71-68 extending their winning streak to six.
Bears win big over Plainsmen
BELLE PLAINE — The BGM girls’ basketball team got its first conference victory of the season with a win over Belle Plaine 48-12 Friday.
The Bears head into the holiday break at 3-5.
In the second match of the doubleheader, the Belle Plaine boys edged the Bears 41-40.
English Valleys tops Colfax-Mingo
NORTH ENGLISH — Coming off a close loss to a good Sigourney team, the English Valleys girls’ basketball team defeated Colfax-Mingo 44-37 Friday.
The Bears rallied in the second half after scoring only three points in the second quarter.
Heading into the holiday break, the Bears are 4-2.
Tigers sweep doubleheader over Warriors
MARENGO — The Iowa Valley girls’ basketball team moved to 4-5 on the season, defeating HLV-TC 45-34 Friday.
The boys’ team also defeated the Warriors 62-51.
Levi Molyneux led the Warriors with 19. Cole Long and Caleb Haack each had 22 for the Tigers.
In a game Thursday against Moravia, Haack nearly nabbed a triple-double, finishing with 24 points, 15 rebounds and nine blocks.
Girls’ wrestling regional sites announced
On Friday, the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union announced assignments for the Jan. 31 regionals in which wrestlers advance to the state meet.
All area teams are in Class 1A.
BGM, English Valleys and Iowa Valley will wrestle at Colfax-Mingo.
Williamsburg will be hosting.
