Bohlen earns second All-American honor
ROCHESTER, N.Y.— Belle Plaine alum Olivia Bohlen, and current Central College track and field athlete, earned her second all-American honor this Friday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in New York.
Bohlen notched an eighth-place finish in the pentathlon, earning the medal in the last event, the 800-meter run.
It took a six-second personal best in the event, with a time of 2:24.45, to leap into medal placement. Bohlen’s score of 3,547 points is also a new career best in the event.
"I couldn't be prouder of what she's accomplished," Central coach Brandon Sturman said in a news release. "It was heck of an 800 to get her on the podium for the second year in a row in the pentathlon."
Schropp’s season ends in consolations
PROVIDENCE, R.I.— Williamsburg alum Jalen Schropp, and current Loras College wrestler, went 0-2 at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Rhode Island this weekend in the 141-pound bracket.
Schropp fought through the consolations to place third at the nationals qualifier, earning a trip to the national tournament.
Now a graduate student, Schropp has a record of 60-38 in his five seasons with the Duhawks. He was an all-American back in 2021.
Schropp is one of the best wrestlers in Raiders’ program history, going 56-0 in his senior season, taking home a state title in the Class 2A 138-pound bracket in 2020.
Hall, Cook play in senior all-star games
CEDAR FALLS — HLV-TC’s Ayla Hall and Montezuma’s Ellen Cook participated in the Larry Niemeyer senior all-star games, held by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association at Cedar Falls High School Saturday.
The event recognizes some of the top seniors in the state and brings them together to play some entertaining games.
Athletes played five games, including a Class 3A-5A select game, a 1A-2A select game and a game each in 1A-3A.
Hall, a Central College commit, played on the 1A white team, coached my Montezuma’s Janel Burgess.
Cook played on the 1A select team, coached by Lynnville-Sully’s Jerry Hulsing.
