Track state qualifying sites released
State qualifying track and field sites were announced Monday in all four classes. Assignments will come later in the season.
Williamsburg is in Class 3A; the six other area teams are in 1A.
Davenport Assumption, Decorah, Glenwood, Mount Vernon, Mount Pleasant, Nevada, Sioux Center and Winterset will host Class 3A qualifying meets.
Edgewood-Colesburg, Griswold, Lisbon, Lynnville-Sully, Madrid, North Union, Northwood-Kensett, WACO, Wayne and Woodbine will host 1A meets.
In 3A, the top two at each site automatically qualify for state, and eight at-large bids will be selected after all the results are in.
In 1A, only event winners automatically qualify. Fourteen at-large qualifiers will be selected.
Spring turkey hunting season nearly here
The Iowa spring turkey hunting seasons are nearly here. The youth season (residents only) starts Friday to Sunday.
Season one will be April 14-17, season two April 18-22, season three April 23-29 and season four April 30-May 18.
Archery season is open during that time, for residents only.
Hunters who harvest turkeys are required to report that harvest the day the bird is tagged. The daily bag limit will be one bearded or male white turkey.

Four WaMaC schools in opening rankings
The first girls soccer rankings from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Association were released Wednesday as the season kicked off this week with games.
Four WaMaC schools were seen in the initial rankings. Center Point-Urbana came in 12th in Class 1A. In 2A, Independence in ninth, Marion 11th and Mount Vernon 15th.
Williamsburg began its season 0-2 following a loss at Washington Thursday.
