Girls’ wrestling adds state dual meet
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union announced Wednesday that girls’ wrestling will be adding a state dual meet, beginning in 2026-27.
The unanimous decision is another sign that the sport is growing in the state.
As it is on the boys’ side, the qualifying and state dual meets will take place before the individual qualifying and state tournaments.
A state dual meet tournament is something that our wrestling schools have wanted,” said IGHSAU Executive Director Erin Gerlich.
“The impressive growth of girls wrestling in Iowa along with more schools being able to field a full roster of wrestlers in every weight class shows that girls wrestling is ready for a dual team tournament.”
