HLV Softball off to hot start
The Warriors bats have been on fire through their first two games scoring a total of 31 runs.
Wins against North Mahaska and BGM by scores of 19-15 and 12-1 has HLV 2-0 after the first week of the season.
The hot bats of the Warriors have been led by junior Lily Randall who leads the team with 7 RBIs.
Plainsmen get first win of season
The Belle Plaine baseball team got their first win of the season against English Valleys Wednesday, 15-0.
“It was the best we’ve hit the ball all season (through four games), ” Plainsmen head coach Matthew Mengler said.
English Valleys will look for its first win of the season next week with games against Iowa Valley, Keota and BGM.
Both Tiger teams win home opener
Both the Iowa Valley baseball and softball teams won their home (and season) openers this week.
The Tiger softball team defeated BCLUW 13-8. The Tiger baseball team defeated Keota 8-3 Thursday and was led by the bat of Owen Bral who batted in three runs.
The home baseball/softball doubleheader scheduled for Friday against Belle Plaine was postponed to a later announced date due to weather.
Warriors lose 9-8 to North Mahaska
The HLV baseball team lost a tightly battled game to North Mahaska Wednesday, 9-8. Boston York had 3 of the team’s 4 RBIs in his two-hit performance.
The Warriors are still searching for their first win and have matchups against Colfax-Mingo and Lynnville-Sully next week.
Former Williamsburg preps compete in NJCAA Championship softball game
Former Raider softball players Peyton Driscoll and Jenna Thurm competed for Kirkwood in the NJCAA Division II National Championship softball game Saturday.
The Kirkwood Eagles fell to St. Johns River State College, 7-5.
In 27 at bats this season, Thurm had 13 hits and 10 RBIs. Driscoll pitched a team high 106 2/3 innings heading into the championship and held a 12-2 record with a 2.17 ERA.
Raiders sweep Vikings
Coming off a doubleheader split against Independence, the Williamsburg baseball team swept Vinton-Shellsburg in close matchups of 5-3 and 5-4 Thursday.
The Raiders stand at 3-2 and are hitting .309 as a team so far this season after this week’s games.
Axmear delivers again
English Valleys defeated East Marshall 7-6 in their first matchup of the day at the Jim Turner Classic Saturday. Kennedy Axmear hit another 3-run homer to give the Bears the lead and eventual victory.
