Bears softball 3-0 on the week
The English Valleys softball team is 8-2 on the season following last week’s 3-0 record. The Bears defeated HLV 11-7, Lynville-Sully 10-6 and Colfax-Mingo 11-0.
Ava Gehrking leads the team with hits (14) following last week’s games.
The English Valleys baseball team is still searching for its first win after a 10-0 loss against Colfax-Mingo Friday.
Plainsmen go 2-1 again this week
On Friday night, the Belle Plaine baseball team lost a hard-fought matchup against North Mahaska that was scoreless through six innings.
Both starting pitchers, Ty Alcott (Belle Plaine) and Jack Kelderman (North Mahaska) dueled it out until the seventh inning.
Belle Plaine also saw victories over BGM, 6-2, and Colfax-Mingo, 1-0, to move to 5-5 on the season following last week’s games.
The Belle Plaine softball team also claimed a victory over Colfax-Mingo last Monday, June 3, 7-2.
Raider softball back at No. 1
The Williamsburg softball team had a one week hiatus as the top ranked team in Class 3A in the weekly released rankings that comes out every Wednesday afternoon.
Going 5-0 last week, the Raiders will most likely stay atop the rankings creating a top-five matchup in Class 3A Wednesday against Mount Vernon.
A look at Conference standings
In softball, Class 1A No. 2 Sigourney is back atop the SICL with a 7-1 conference record and 9-4 overall.
HLV and English Valleys are closely behind them following last week’s games. HLV is 7-2 overall with a 6-1 conference record and English Valleys is 8-2 with a 6-2 conference record.
With Benton’s loss to Independence last Monday, June 3, Williamsburg is now back atop the WaMaC West standings following last week’s games, with a 11-3 overall record and an 8-1 record in conference play.
In baseball, Lynnville-Sully remains the lone undefeated in the SICL, with a 15-0 overall record and a 9-0 in conference play.
Iowa Valley is the highest in the standings among area teams with a 5-2 conference record and 6-5 overall record following last week’s games.
Belle Plaine is also close behind with a 4-3 conference record and 5-5 overall.
Benton leads the WaMaC West with a 15-4 overall and 6-2 conference record. Williamsburg sits at 6-9 overall with a 5-5 conference record.
