Plainsmen defeat HLV
Both the Belle Plaine baseball and softball teams defeated HLV last Wednesday night in 12-11 and 12-5 victories.
In the baseball action, Ty Alcott hit his second career home run. HLV had the winning run at second but pitcher Nate Hoover struck out two in a row to win the game.
In the softball side of things, Eva Brannaman had four hits for the Plainsmen and Ava Grieder had three RBIs. Taylor Johnson pitched all seven innings with three strikeouts.
Haack hits double-digit K’s
Last Monday, June 10 the Iowa Valley baseball team defeated BGM 10-2. Nolan Kriegel had three RBIs and Caleb Haack pitched 6 2/3 innings with 10 strikeouts in the outing.
Layne Peska also had a staggering five stolen bases. The Tigers also defeated Colfax-Mingo, 7-3, on Wednesday and fell to Keota 7-6 Friday.
Tigers softball back above .500
After falling to BGM 6-3 June 10, the Iowa Valley softball team got back on track with victories against Colfax-Mingo and Keota.
In the 8-5 victory over Colfax-Mingo the Tigers got off to a 4-0 lead and added three more runs in the fourth and one more in the seventh. The Tigers scored a season high 16 runs in their victory over Keota and moved to 8-7.
Axmear reaches 500 Ks milestone
English Valleys pitcher Kennedy Axmear recorded her 500th career strikeout in a game against Holy Trinity Catholic Saturday. Coming into Saturday, Axmear held a 10-2 record this season with 99 strikeouts and a 2.73 ERA.
English Valleys baseball is still searching for its first win this season but scored a season high seven runs last Wednesday against Montezuma.
Ben Flander had three hits and two doubles. Keyden Lown, Ty Ayers and Luke Moore all drove in runs on hits.
