State qualifying assignments announced

English Valleys and Williamsburg girls lone ranked area teams

The cross-country state qualifying assignments were released today by the Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Because the State meet is a Friday-Saturday event, state qualifying meets will take place next Wednesday and Thursday.

Class 3A and 4A races will begin Wednesday at 4 p.m., and Class 1A and 2A will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The top three teams at each of five sites will qualify for state in classes 2A-4A. Individuals who finish in the top 15 not on a state qualifying team will also advance.

In Class 1A, with eight sites, the top two teams will advance to state as will the top 10 individuals not on a qualifying team.

Area teams are spread out among three different sites as listed below. Ranked teams at each site are based off this week’s Iowa Association of Track Coaches weekly rankings.

CLASS 3A

At Waverly-Shell Rock

Teams: BK-CGD, Clear Creek Amana, Charles City, Clear Lake, Decorah, Dubuque Wahlert, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Iowa Falls-Alden, Mount Vernon-Lisbon, South Tama County, Waverly-Shell Rock, Webster City, Williamsburg

Ranked teams: Girls— #2 Mount Vernon-Lisbon, #14 Decorah, #15 Dubuque Wahlert, #16 Clear Creek Amana, #19 Williamsburg; Boys— #4 Mount Vernon-Lisbon, #6 Decorah, #7 Clear Creek Amana

CLASS 1A

At Iowa City Regina
