Stillbirth prevention Act passes House
By Rep. Ashley Hinson
May. 21, 2024 8:35 am
I am excited to share that my bipartisan Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act passed the House.
While the United States leads the world in medical innovation and development of new cures, we have an unacceptably high maternal mortality and stillbirth rate. Over 21,000 babies are stillborn every year, and nearly one in four stillbirths is preventable.
The tragedy of a stillbirth — the unexpected death of a baby after 20 weeks of pregnancy — is devastating to mothers and families. Many of the women who endure a stillbirth have already picked out their baby’s name or started decorating a nursery — this heartbreak of stillbirth leaves an unfillable void for the families it impacts.
Our moms and babies deserve better.
Ensuring that expecting women have access to high-quality maternal care, regardless of ZIP code or income level, is critical to preventing stillbirths and improving outcomes for both mother and baby.
My bipartisan Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act would finally dedicate funds toward stillbirth prevention and research, saving the lives of mothers and babies.
I am so proud this bipartisan bill was passed by the House this week. This is a huge milestone in the fight to end stillbirth.
By passing this legislation, we are making meaningful progress to reduce stillbirths, ensure expecting women receive the care they deserve and support growing families. Together, we can end the heartbreak of stillbirth and help bring more healthy babies into the world.
Police week
It's National Police Week. This is an opportunity to recognize our brave law enforcement officers who put themselves in harm's way to protect our communities. Iowa law enforcement officers always have our back, and it is vital we come through for them.
That's why I am very proud to share that my bipartisan, bicameral Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act passed the House. This legislation will help combat anti-police rhetoric and violence, and ensure law enforcement officers have access to the mental health resources they need.
I enjoyed having the Iowa Sheriffs and Deputies in town in honor of National Police Week. “Thank you” will never be enough. I will always Back the Blue
Girls sports
Biological men should not be allowed to compete in girls' sports at any level, and female athletes should never be relegated to second place because they're forced to compete against a man.
As President Joe Biden and the woke Left try to erase women, I am proud to join House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY-21) in recognizing Oct. 10 as 'American Girls in Sports Day' to honor the female athletes who are passionate about their sports, train hard, and deserve recognition.
Visitors to D.C.
It was great to have the Mason City Chamber and representatives from North Iowa in D.C. to discuss how we can foster growth and create new opportunities for the region. I’m grateful to work with great local stakeholders to ensure rural communities have access to quality services and resources.
It was great to see Iowa Corn's Lance Lillibridge and Jason Orr this week. We discussed the importance of reducing farm input costs and passing a strong Farm Bill.
Thank you to the FUEL Iowa team for coming by the office to discuss priorities for Iowa fuel retailers and the importance of year-round E15.
