MARENGO — Due to construction on Marengo’s new aquatic center, traffic on Marengo Avenue north of Main Street will become a one-way street, allowing only northbound traffic.
No parking will be permitted on the west side of the street.
May Street between Marengo Avenue and Court Avenue will become one way for westbound traffic. Parking will continue to be prohibited on the south side of the street.
Work on the bathhouse is beginning, said Marengo City Administrator Karla Marck, and the construction encroaching on Marengo Avenue.
Rather than trying to limit traffic only during days construction crews will be working in the street, the city decided to keep the streets one-way for the duration of construction, get everyone “into the groove of driving one way,” Marck said.
Contractors initially said they wouldn’t have to shut the street down, said Marck.
In April or May, the street will need to be closed for work on the storm sewer.
