Supervisors set land use change hearings

VINTON — The Benton County Board of Supervisors set a land use hearing for Tuesday Sept. 16 at 9:15 a.m. during a brief meeting in Vinton last week.
The hearing will address a proposed land-use change for Jonathan Kaine and Tasha Ritchart, for land in Section 28, Canton Township.
A land use change hearing was set for Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 9:30 a.m. for Dennis and Barbara Garling for land in Section 21, Iowa Township.
Supervisors approved a farm exemption for the Silhanek Family Trust (Greg and Carlene) for land in Parcels C and D, Section 24, Homer Township. The family plans to build a new residence, and they qualify for the farm exemption, according to Barb Fetzer of the land use office.
The board approved use of the courthouse lawn for the Vinton Cruise.
Supervisor Bruce Volz updated the board on employee participation in the wellness program and how it affects the county’s premiums. He emphasized the importance of having members of departments attend the wellness meeting. One more meeting will be held in the fall.
The board also talked about having a meeting at the Cedar Valley Ranch.
Auditor Hayley Rippel explained what will be covered in the meeting with the Iowa State Association of Counties annual conference.
