A second annual Sweetheart Supper will raise money for updates to the Poweshiek County Fairgrounds and a proposed indoor event center.
The event is slated for Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Poweshiek County Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.
The Poweshiek County Fair Association Sweetheart Supper features drinks, fellowship, food, auctions and music, all for a good cause.
Tickets are available at Wagon Wheels West in Grinnell, from any fair board member, or at the Poweshiek County Fairgrounds Office. Tickets are $50 each or $350 to reserve a table for eight.
Evening agenda
5 p.m. — Sweetheart Social Hour
6 p.m. — Prime Rib/Pork Loin Dinner
7 p.m. — Live auction
8 p.m. — Silent Auction Closes
8 p.m. — Live Music by Sierra
Proposed construction
The proposed improvements include an indoor show ring measuring 110 feet by 100 feet with a 50-foot by 80-foot connecting hallway to the exhibit building. The hallway will have handicap accessible restrooms, a livestock office, a meeting room and a concession stand.
The new indoor arena will be located on the west side of the exhibit building.
The proposed cost of the project is $2.3 million.
“We decided that the time has come to make the show ring much larger,” said Scott Sieck, president of the Poweshiek County Fair board. “The new show ring will bring other shows to the fairgrounds, which will benefit Poweshiek County.”
