Tax cuts could increase take-home pay

Last week, President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act into law. This historic legislation will cut taxes for working Americans, permanently secure our border and fund deportations, unleash American energy and strengthen Medicaid for vulnerable Iowans while ending waste, fraud and abuse.
In Iowa, an average family of four could see their take-home pay increase by $11,000 thanks to tax cuts and higher wages.
This bill will supercharge America’s path to prosperity, and I want to break it down a bit more for you today.
Let’s start with tax relief.
President Trump kept his promises, so Iowans can keep hard-earned money by eliminating tax on tips and overtime. We are expanding the Child Tax Credit, giving seniors a $6,000 tax deduction — not to mention preventing the largest tax increase on working Americans.
Earlier this year, I led a letter to Speaker Johnson and House Ways and Means Chairman Smith emphasizing the need to enhance the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, also known as CDCTC, and the Employer-Provided Child Care Tax Credit, to help families with the rising cost of child care.
We are also building on the Trump Tax Cuts’ incentives for paid leave by strengthening the Paid Family and Medical Leave Credit. I’m proud to have secured this huge win so families have the certainty they need to support their kids and ensure economic stability for their family.
Next, border security.
We are flipping the script to disincentivize illegal immigration and build upon President Trump’s work to permanently secure the border by funding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement enforcement capacity for up to 1 million removals annually; adding 8,000 new U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers; expanding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention capacity; finishing the border wall where needed; and increasing immigration-related fees so taxpayers don’t foot the bill for illegal immigrants.
Let’s talk about our work strengthening taxpayer benefits like Medicaid.
We are strengthening Medicaid for those who truly need it by ensuring able-bodied, healthy Americans who can work, do work.
An individual can meet the community engagement requirements during a month by working, volunteering, participating in an education program or a combination of these activities for at least 80 hours.
And there are exemptions, including for individuals who are medically frail, parents of children who are under 14 years old and pregnant women.
Alongside President Trump, we are ensuring the program is not abused by those who can work and choose not to. The 29-year-old healthy man sitting on his mom’s couch shouldn’t be taking these benefits away from pregnant women or children.
To round it out, the One Big Beautiful Bill is a game changer for Iowa’s farmers and producers.
By making permanent the 20% small business deduction and eliminating the death tax on over two million family farms, families no longer have to bear these tax burdens and can keep their farms in the family for future generations.
Couple this with improving the farm safety net, expanding ag trade programs, expanding access to crop insurance options.
I was proud to fight to get this bill across the finish line and will continue working with President Trump to deliver for all Iowans.
Fair season
It’s my favorite time of year — fair season!
Enjoyed catching up with folks at the Delaware County Fair. You can’t beat making fun memories with Iowans, celebrating agriculture, and eating incredible food. Our fairs bring our communities together and showcase the best of Iowa.
Looking forward to many more fairs around IA-02!
