Temporary parking to become staging area

MARENGO — The Marengo City Council agreed Aug. 13 to let Compass Memorial Healthcare postpone reseeding its temporary parking on the west side for a year.
Compass asked the city last year to allow the hospital to create temporary angle parking on Western Avenue to access a temporary entrance to the emergency department while the hospital built its new emergency department across a vacated block of West May Street.
The city granted temporary parking through August of 2025 at which time the hospital was supposed to return the parking area to grass.
Instead, the hospital wants to use the asphalted area as construction staging as it remodels the interior of the former emergency department.
The City Council approved the request through August 2026 at which time the hospital will be required to return the parking are to grass.
