MARENGO — Former Iowa County Historical Society president and vice present Delores Tibben retired from the Historical Society’s board Sept. 28 after 26 years.
Tibben has been of member of the historical society for more than 40 years, she said. She edited the Historical Society’s newsletter for 17 years.
“I will miss it,” said Tibben, “but I will continue to help.”
Tibben would like to see more families bring their children to the museum when it’s open June through September, she said. She enjoys making history come alive for students of Luthern Interparish School when they visit Gritter Creek School every year.
The Historical Society can always use more members, said Tibben. As members get older and retire, they need younger people to step in to fill their shoes, such as current president Patty Hinrichs.
“I’m 84,” said Tibben. She can’t do a lot of things she used to do, she said. “I do a lot of computer things yet.”
The Pioneer Heritage Museum in Marengo continues to grow its exhibits, said Tibben. “We just keep adding new displays every year.”
Tibben and her husband live in Victor, where her husband grew up. Tibben has written historical articles about the town for The Hometown Current.
