The Iowa Valley softball team was 6-11 June 28.
After a Class 1A Region 4 first-round win at Lynnville-Sully Monday, the Tigers are now 12-11.
“Our girls have really worked on being disciplined at the plate and knowing what pitch they are looking to hit,” Iowa Valley coach Monica Miller said.
The hot hitting stretch continued into Monday. Nine runs is the fewest the team has scored in the past six games.
In the third meeting between the two South Iowa Cedar League opponents Monday, the Tigers came out on top convincingly, 13-1.
The team totaled 14 hits in the game with three each from Olyvia Grant, Lydia Kriegel and Maggie Kriegel. Each of the three brought in a run, and Maggie Kriegel led the team with three.
“Maggie came through with big RBIs,” Miller said.
The Tigers ended this one after six with a five-run sixth inning.
The Hawks had eight hits, but a clean defense avoided any scoring threats.
“All of the girls played well on defense and stayed strong when it counted,” said Miller.
Iowa Valley is set to face 1A No. 4 Southeast Warren in the second-round Wednesday.
