Iowa Valley 56, WACO 35
MARENGO — The Tigers continued their strong start to the football season in their toughest match yet.
WACO came in ranked ninth in The Gazette eight-player poll.
“We had another great team win on Friday and had a lot of guys step up to help us get the win,” Iowa Valley head coach Casey Krull said.
“Our offensive line did a really good job of executing the game plan and were able to give our quarterbacks time to throw the ball, and they opened up running lanes for our ball carriers.”
The game was scoreless after one quarter. Then the teams put up 48 points in the second.
The Tigers outscored WACO 28-15 in the second half to pull away.
Nolan Kriegel had 34 carries for 252 yards and five touchdowns.
“We had multiple receivers get involved on Friday to make big catches when needed,” Krull said. ”Owen Bral, Caleb Haack, and Dane Smith all had receiving touchdowns.“
Haack had five catches for 133 yards.
Layne Peska had an interception defensively in the second half and threw two passing touchdowns.
“Defensively, we did a really good job against a really good offense, Krull said. ”This was a great win over a really good WACO team.“
BGM 70, Twin Cedars 0
BROOKLYN — The Bears shut out Twin Cedars in high school action this weekend, and Beau Burns had another big night.
Burns scored nine touchdowns in the Friday’s football game — five via pass and four on the ground.
Burns racked up 245 passing yards and 201 rushing yards.
Tate Martin was one of four players who had receiving touchdowns. He also returned a fumble for a touchdown defensively.
Martin added five tackles for loss.
The Bears’ defense forced four turnovers in the game.
Belle Plaine 86, Melcher-Dallas 12
MELCHER-DALLAS — The Plainsmen scored a season-high 86 points and moved to 3-0 on the season in Friday’s match-up against Melcher-Dallas.
“It was a great team win,” Belle Plaine head coach Todd Bohlen said. “We dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides.”
The two scores from Melcher-Dallas came off a kick return and a long return setting up a short field.
“We do have some work to do to clean up our special teams,” Bohlen said.
Montezuma 80, Moravia 8
MONTEZUMA — The Braves bounced back this week after a loss to Southeast Warren last week.
A balanced offensive attack put up 10 total offensive touchdowns in an 80-8 rout over Moravia
Brady Boulton had 243 yards passing, and Broox Stockman had three rushing touchdowns and 90 yards. Stockman added a 68-yard kick return for touchdown.
David Rose had a big day receiving, pulling in four catches that totaled 149 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
The Braves forced three fumbles defensively.
