SIGOURNEY — The Iowa Valley Tigers faced a tall task in their second round regional game against Sigourney.
The Savages’ pitcher, Carly Goodwin, delivered as she has throughout her career.
The Tigers fell 9-0 behind Goodwin’s 20 strikeout performance.
With two outs and two strikes in the seventh, Tigers Izzy Kriegel broke up the perfect game with a single.
Iowa Valley concludes the season with a 11-14 record.
“This season we were right in the fight for so many games that didn’t go our way and were close to finishing those games and seeing our win column climb,” Iowa Valley head coach Monica Miller said.
The team says goodbye to seniors Kennedy Rathjen, Dakota Pedersen and Ella Read.
Each of the three seniors were a part of the starting lineup for the Tigers.
Rathjen had 10 RBIs on the season and played as a solid first basemen all season.
Coach Miller also noted that Rathjen was a five year starter at first base for the Tigers.
Pedersen pitched 50 1/3 innings for the Tigers this season with 37 strikeouts and had seven RBIs at the plate.
“Dakota led our team in conference hitting and did a nice job on the mound for us,” Miller said.
Read had 20 hits and stole 14 bases on the season.
“Ella came on strong last year and became an incredible center fielder with her speed and read on the ball,” Miller said.
“These three will be missed, but they have helped start to build our program and they will always be part of that.”
