ALBURNETT — The Iowa Valley boys’ wrestling team finished 1-1 at a Class 1A regional dual in Alburnett Tuesday night.
The Tigers faced off against West Branch in the first dual of the night, holding the Bears off for a 36-35 win.
In the 11 non-forfeited matches, the Tigers won five bouts, but were able to get bonus points in three of them, which proved to be key in the final outcome.
No. 1 Alburnett, one of the best teams in the State regardless of class, stood in the way of the Tigers for a spot at State Duals.
Alburnett dominated, winning 13 of 14 matches, and the Tigers rested a few starters on the back end when the dual became out of reach.
Dane Smith, at 157, got a pin over Alburnett’s Avery Rauch in the Tigers’ lone victory.
Districts Feb. 15 await the Tigers at Pleasantville.
