MARENGO — The Iowa Valley boys’ wrestling team returns a majority of its starters from last season, including state qualifier Nolan Kriegel.
Kriegel, as a freshman, fell to the eventual champion in the 1A-157 division, Don Bosco’s Kyler Knaack, in the second round and won one more match in the consolations.
“We also return a lot of starters and wrestlers with experience,” Iowa Valley head coach Jeremy Kriegel said. “This is a great group that has big goals for themselves and as a team.”
The Tigers return a total of 10 letter winners this season.
“We also have some experienced freshmen that we are looking at stepping into the lineup and helping us out right away,” Kriegel said.
The combination of experience, depth and youth provide the Tigers a great chance to defend their South Iowa Cedar League title and go beyond.
“I think that [with] the work ethic and the talent that this team has, we have the potential to do some special things this winter,” Kriegel said. “I'm excited to get them in the room and get the season rolling.”
The Tigers begin practice Monday and kick off their season in a quad-dual in Victor Dec. 5. Competing teams will include BGM, English Valleys and HLV-TC.
