MARENGO — The Iowa Valley girls golf team had three golfers place in the top 20 at the South Iowa Cedar League meet last season in route to a fourth-place finish.
Those three golfers were all seniors, and the Tigers will need others to step into those roles this season.
“With losing three seniors, the returning letterwinners will need to look to improve and step into leadership roles for the other girls,” Iowa Valley coach Martin Wieck said.
“The potential is there. We will just have to see what happens.”
Jasmine Slaymaker (24th), Elizabeth Gilbert (T25th) and Alivia Rabe (33rd) are the Tigers’ top three returning finishers from the conference meet last season.
The Tigers also placed fourth at regionals.
On the boys side, the Tigers will look to improve on a “not so successful season.”
“Coming off a not so successful season, we will be looking to improve,” said Wieck. “Our returning letterwinners will need to work hard and there is potential in some of our newcomers.”
Owen Bral finished 13th at sectionals last season and is the Tigers’ top returner. Sam Ahrens was honorable mention all-conference for the Tigers.
Freshmen Zavier Pedersen and Tyson Kriegel will look to improve the Tigers’ squad.
The Tigers open their season April 7 in a co-ed dual with English Valleys at Knoll Ridge Country Club.
