Iowa Valley 72, New London 21
NEW LONDON — Iowa Valley football improved to 4-0 on the season after another convincing win, this one against New London Friday night.
The Tigers scored 72, beating their opponent by more than 50 points.
“Our offensive line played really well again this week, Iowa Valley head coach Casey Krull said. “Mason Hoyt was really physical and had multiple pancakes on the night.”
The Tigers scored on their first offensive possession and built up a 44-7 lead by halftime.
Nolan Kriegel had 13 rushes for 157 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Tigers rushing attack.
Through the air, Caleb Haack had two long touchdown catches, from 60 and 54 yards out.
“Owen Bral also had a highlight catch for a touchdown coming up over a defender to make the play,” Krull said.
Defensively the Tigers had 8.5 tackles for loss, and Kriegel added an interception.
Belle Plaine 52, Moravia 13
MORAVIA — The Plainsmen football team ended the week 4-0 after winning big in Moravia Friday night.
Belle Plaine’s rushing attack was strong, as usual, but the Plainsmen also threw for more than 100 yards for the first time this season as they outscored the Mohawks 52-13.
Ty Alcott and Lane Voukon each rushed for more than 100 yards.
The Plainsmen’s toughest games are yet to come. On Friday, they will face BGM in a big in-district game.
“Most importantly, we came away from the game injury free as we face the toughest part of our schedule going forward,” Belle Plaine head coach Todd Bohlen said.
Montezuma 86, Melcher-Dallas 0
MONTEZUMA — The Braves rolled through Melcher-Dallas Friday night, posting a shutout while scoring 86.
The team had nine rushing touchdowns and 223 total rushing yards.
Six different players ran the ball for scores, led by Broox Stockman with three.
Calamus-Wheatland 51, HLV 50
VICTOR — HLV put up one heck of a fight against 2-0 Calamus-Wheatland, but fell short by a point, 51-50.
“A real gut punch of a loss,” HLV head coach Kevin Smith said. “The kids did a lot of things well and gave themselves a chance to win.”
HLV was down by 10 at halftime and responded by scoring on its first possession of the second half.
The Warriors forced a fumble and scored again to take the lead.
The game went back and forth from there, and the Warriors had a chance to win in the end.
On the final play of the game, from inside the 20, a pass deflected in the end zone was almost caught by two HLV receivers.
“In hindsight we probably could have tried a field goal, but we haven’t had anyone that we’ve felt comfortable with doing that,” Smith said.
Cael Weisskopf rushed for three touchdowns, and Levi Molyneauz had a big day receiving with three touchdowns and 84 yards.
“It was tough loss, but we took huge strides from where we were a couple weeks ago,” Smith said.
